Tonya M. Rintala

It is with deep, heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Tonya M. Rintala. She passed away at home in Los Lunas, New Mexico on December 6, 2022. Tonya was born in Butte, Montana on December 19, 1968 to Russell and Diana Rintala (Quintana). She grew up in Walkerville and roamed the hill with her friends and family. Tonya attended school in Butte and New Mexico, graduating from Butte High School in 1987. She worked for the University of New Mexico for over 20 years as an operations manager where her magnetic personality earned her many close friends and colleagues that will miss her greatly. Tonya was fun-loving, artistic, and enjoyed hard rock music. She attended countless concerts over the years and always figured out how to get backstage passes. Tonya was a crafty gal and liked sharing her creations with others. She loved decorating her home for all holidays, especially Halloween. Tonya loved hummingbirds and always made sure to keep the feeders in her yard full so she could get a good view of them. She always knew how to have a good laugh and her light-hearted spirit was contagious. Tonya would go out of her way to help people whenever she could. She was looking forward to meeting her first grandchild in February 2023. Tonya is preceded in death by her mother, Diana Rintala; maternal parents, Trinidad and Rose Quintana; paternal parent, Florence Rintala. She is survived by her son, Augustus Rintala-MacLeod (Talyia); father, Russell Rintala Sr; sister, Tammy Barnett; brother and sister-in-law Russell Jr and Michelle Rintala; half-brothers, Gene (Ashley) and Dennis Rintala; nieces, Courtney Barnett (Jamey), Marti Barnett, and Leah Rintala, partner Steve Portillo, and close family friend Yogi Hermann. Tonya is also survived by her great-nephews as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She said her mother wanted to name her Holly because she was born during the Christmas season, so fly high Hollygirl. You'll always be in our hearts.
