Sotero P. Otero

Sotero P. Otero, age 73, a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and a resident of El Cerro, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Sotero was known in the community as an adobadero and not only believed in hard work but also modeled hard work. He was always willing to help others and had a way of finding humor in any given situation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Otero, Sr. and Angelica Perea Otero; siblings, Manuel Otero and Betty Martinez; and son, Sotero Otero, Jr. Sotero is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elsie Otero; children, ˜Simon Otero, II of Belen, Sandralee ˜Gerken and husband, Warren of Keenesburg, Colorado, Gloria McAfee and husband, James, II of Tijeres, Alfonso Otero and wife, Carolynn of Council Grove, Kansas, Thomas Otero of Los Lunas, and Andrew Otero and wife, Janelle of El Cerro; siblings, Leroy Otero and wife, Lucille of Tome, Felipe Otero and wife, Ramona of El Cerro, Albita Morales of El Cerro, Mary Lou Luna and husband, Richard of Los Lunas, Fela Gallegos and husband, Pete of El Cerro, and Florence Lovato and husband, Arthur of El Cerro; Grandchildren, Simon D. Otero, III, Laurie McAfee, Cecelia Otero, James L. McAfee, III, RoseLynn Otero, Christopher Otero, Matthew McAfee, Andrew Otero, Jr. Cayla Otero, Issac Otero, Alicia Gerken, Christina Gerken, Lauren Gerken, Isabel Otero, Madelynn Otero, and Ariana Otero; great-grandchildren, Ian Erickson and Justin McAfee. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful” 2Timothy 4:7. All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 7 beginning with a ˜Visitation at 10:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 11:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Valencia Catholic Cemetery.
