Prescilla Martinez

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Prescilla Garcia Martinez, age 79, who passed away peacefully at her home in Peralta, New Mexico, on February 8, 2026, surrounded by family. A Rosary will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in Los Lunas, NM. A Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Valencia Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow the burial at the Tome Community Center Born on July 11, 1947, in Peralta to Frank P. Garcia and Carmel Garcia, Prescilla spent her early years in the community she loved and later attended high school in Los Lunas, NM. Prescilla is survived by her children, Dominique Martinez and Phyllis Yazzie (Chosie); her brother Antonio Garcia (Adela) ; her sisters Diana Romero and Remedios Balido; and extended family including Nat and Geraldine Martinez and Ruben and Tommie Martinez. She is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Phyllis Yazzie; and her brothers Rael Garcia and Polo Garcia. Prescilla embraced life with a kind and adventurous spirit. A devoted Catholic, she cherished her family, her friends, and her faith. She enjoyed laughing had a sense of humor like no other but really wanted to make others feel very special where ever she went. She loved puzzles and loved gluing her masterpieces once they were completed. She loved needlepoint knitting and created beautiful pieces. She loved Mariachi Music. She found joy in praying the rosary and encouraging others to join her. Her patience, wit, and memorable sense of humor will be deeply missed. She will also be fondly remembered for her delicious red chile, her Halloween pozole, and her vibrant Christmas spirit. Her simple joys included sitting outside with her coffee and her dog, Bluz, and reminiscing about her siblings, her parents, and the cherished memories of earlier days. She proudly held the title of the family's Chinese checker princess. Prescilla worked as a bank processor, where she formed many lifelong friendships-relationships she always considered a true blessing. She also worked at Joe's Pharmacy and treasured the memories she made there. For more than twenty years, she served as caregiver to her niece, Monica, pouring her heart into caring for her and sharing countless moments of love and laughter. She was also an active member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Altar Society in Peralta. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jenny Mendoza for her exceptional care, love, and compassion. We are deeply thankful to all who cared for Prescilla, including First Care of New Mexico, Los Lunas Fresenius Kidney Care, Central New Mexico Kidney Center, Presbyterian Clinic Los Lunas (Dr. Lilia Garza Hill), Ambercare Hospice, Lovelace Women's Hospital, and the teams at Presbyterian Downtown Hospital. Above all, we give thanks to God for blessing us with such a wonderful mother, whom we were honored to share with all of you.
