Paul Romero

1955- 2026 Paul A. Romero, 71 years old, passed away on August 15, 2026 at his home in Belen, New Mexico. A visitation will take place at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. A Final Visitation will take place at Our lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, August 24, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. A Reception at Our Lady of Belen Parish Hall following interment. Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a devout and active Catholic. As a young man he was President of the Right to Life Belen Chapter, and although in his later years he could be a man of few words, he never hesitated to speak up to advocate for the unborn. Later in life he was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus council #2673 serving as Financial Secretary for numerous years. Paul was also a volunteer at the Belen Food Pantry. Paul was born on February 28th, in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Belen with his parents when he was 12 years old. He graduated from New Mexico State University with a bachelors degree in sociology. He retired from Sandia National Laboratories in November 2014 after 30 years of employment which allowed him to send all 5 of his children to college. Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Susan Romero. He is also survived by his five children, Carlene Mazon (Josh), David Romero (Deirdre), Anntherese Kornienko and her fiancé Gilbert, Christine Seda (Steven), and Carolyn Romero. Paul has 12 grandchildren: Dominic, Nathan, and Hunter Mazon; Jack and Madelyn Romero; Daria and Philip Kornienko, Lukas and Evelyn Montes; Eleanor Seda; Benjamin and Olivia Romero-Martinez. Paul is also survived by his brother Richard Romero, his sister Marie Suits (Jean), and his sister Marti Silva. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Richard Chavez (Elena), his sister-in-law Annette Chavez and her friend Charles Paiz, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Louis C. and Hilaria Romero; his brother, Danny; his sister, Helen Gilliland (Bob); his brother-in-law, Ray Silva; his sister-in-law Carmen Romero; his father-in-law Candelario (Lalo) Chavez and his mother-in-law Elena Chavez. Pallbearers will be, Ronald Romero, Josh Mazon, David Romero, Steven Seda, Dominic Mazon, Nathan Mazon, Philip Kornienko, and Benjamin Romero-Martinez. Honorary pallbearer: Hunter Mazon
