Nellie M. Watkins

1919-2014 Nellie May Watkins, 94 years of age, born June 13, 1919, longtime Belen, New Mexico resident, passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital after a short illness. Nellie Watkins was married to the late pastor W.M. Weaver. She was a long time member of the Belen Church of Christ. Nellie’s life was dedicated to the service of her family and Faith. Her greatest joy was instructing young people in the ways of the Lord and a virtuous way of life. Her dedication to service is evidenced most remarkably by the fact that she helped prepare Thanksgiving dinner when she was 93. She spent her last years at Vista del Rio Mobile Home Park where she will be sorely missed. Nellie is survived by one brother, John Henry Plog of Redding, CA; one sister, Mildred Nance and husband, Leroy Nance of Pocahontas, IL; children, Barbara Cavazos of Belen, NM, Shirley and husband, Earnest Busch of Granite City, IL, and Jim Hoffman and wife, Terri Hoffman of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Carolyn E. She is also survived by many nieces, aunts, and uncles. Also recognized are Nellie’s special friends, Marilyn Richie of Los Lunas, NM, Maxine Welch of Bosque Farms, NM, Charlene Wells of Los Lunas, NM, Connie and Bill Philips of Rio Communities, NM. Services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel located at 609 N. Main St, Belen, NM at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday April 12, 2014 with Pastor Tom Plog (nephew) presiding. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens and luncheon will follow the services. Your attendance will be welcomed by the family.
