Kerri Fiala Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

1973-2020 Kerri Elizabeth Fiala (Niggel), 47, returned to her heavenly home on June 11, 2020. Her devotion to her husband and children, and her firm belief in God, supported her through many successes and struggles in life. Although dearly missed by her loved ones, they celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. She was born to the late Keith Bernard and Antoinette (Toni) Niggel, of Albuquerque, NM on April 19, 1973. Kerri grew up in a faithful home with two fun brothers in eastern Albuquerque, graduating from Eldorado High School in 1991. After studying Elementary Education and Psychology at Eastern New Mexico University, Kerri went on to study Fire Science at TVI. This led to her becoming a firefighter and EMT for the Bernalillo County Fire Department from 2002 – 2009. Kerri was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend, a fellow firefighter and EMT, Joel John Fiala, on October 9, 2004 in Albuquerque, NM. Joel and Kerri shared a tender love of giving, patience, and sacrifice. Together with that love, they persevered raising four children. She was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Through all the seasons of Kerri’s life, she always had time to share with loved ones as seen in many lifelong friendships. Kerri saw the best in everyone and possessed a wonderful quality of loving each individual as they are. Kerri is survived by her husband, Joel, her sons Desmond Harmon and Drake Fiala, and her daughters Kasey Niggel and Jemma Fiala all of Albuquerque, NM; her brother Father Clement Niggel of Belen; and a number of other relatives and close friends. Her brother, Keith Ryan Niggel, and her parents precede her in death. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 29th, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church at 2532 Vermont St. NE, Albuquerque, NM, with interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Kerri will be escorted by her immediate family and honorary pallbearers: Laina DeVore, Sara DeVore, Karen Salas, and Melissa Schultz. The eulogy will be prepared and read by Erin O’Donnel.
