Joe L. Sanchez Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

1929-2020 On December 16, 2020, our Lord called Joe L. Sanchez, age 91, to be by his side. Joe passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Belen, NM on July 26, 1929 and graduated as a proud Belen Eagle. He moved to Albuquerque shortly after graduation and was employed by Sandia National Labs where he started in the photo department and retired as an administrative assistant. Joe also enlisted in the New Mexico National Guard in 1947. By 1953, he was promoted to a 2nd Lieutenant and enjoyed a wonderful career until as a Lieutenant Colonel was transferred to the Army Reserve with a promotion to Colonel, where he retired 5 years later. He loved his time in the Army and serving his country and the different duties he had from a platoon leader to battalion commander to an instructor at the Command and General Staff College. He was honored to travel to many posts across the country and Germany. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Delfinia Sanchez; brothers, Patrick, Frank, Ignacio and Ernesto Sanchez; sisters, Lucy Abeyta, Marina Jaramillo, Margaret Saavedra, and Lucila Mitchell and granddaughter Karen Moore. Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sally C. Sanchez; son, Bruce Sanchez and wife Nora; daughter ,Carol Crandall and husband Mark; grandchildren, Danny Moore and wife Andrea, Krista Moore, William Kesten and wife Alisia, Kathryn Kesten, Elizabeth Sanchez and Rebecca Sanchez; great grandchildren Danny Moore Jr., Kiefer Sordia, Peter Paul Espinosa and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A rosary will be recited for Joe on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 6:00 pm and funeral mass on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church.
