Helm Kenton "H.K." Berry

1919-2013 H. Kenton Berry, a resident of Belen, NM, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Kenton was born in Greenfield, Missouri on May 1, 1919. He grew up in Everton, Missouri and there he met his childhood sweetheart, Altalee, who later became his wife of 72 years. Kenton and Altalee moved to Belen in the early 1940’s where Kenton started a job as a lineman for the AT&SF Railroad. After a short time Kenton was drafted and served in the Navy during WWII. After the war was over, Kenton returned to Belen and his job at the railroad. They enjoyed life in a small town and soon became active in the First Baptist Church where Kenton served as a deacon Kenton worked for the railroad for 43 years and retired in 1983. He was also a Past Master of Bethlehem Lodge #56 and a member of Jessamine Chapter #45 where he was very active. Kenton and Altalee loved spoiling their nieces and nephews and spending time with family and friends. Kenton was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Berry and Elva Shaw; sisters, Aleene Grant and Ruth Hoover; brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Doris Crain; sister-in-law, Frances Dickson; and father and mother-in-law, Roy and Fern Dodson. H.K. is survived his wife, Altalee Dodson Berry; brother, H. Dean Berry and wife, Lola of TX; nephews and nieces, John Dickson and wife, Judy of Houston, TX; Jim Crain and wife, Sharon of Clovis, NM and Roy Dickson and wife, Vicki, of Houston, TX, Linda Crow and husband, Bill of Belen, NM, Suzanne Simmons and husband, Larry of Franklin, TN, Dave Crain and wife, Lori of Belen, NM, Dwight Crain and wife, Traci of Waco, TX; Kevin Berry and Mike Berry of Kansas City, MO. All services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Belen, on Saturday, October 26, beginning with a Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Crain, David Crain, Dwight Crain, John Dickson, Roy Dickson and Arthur Fender. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Crow, Doug Luton, Jeremy Crain and Karl Asendorf.
