Harold Leroy Quinn

1936-2019 Harold Leroy Quinn, age 83, a resident of Socorro, NM, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019. He was known to be a serious rock hound. Harold loved the occasion of being able to go searching for rocks and admiring the different colors, shapes, textures and consistencies. He displayed most of his collection in his front yard, where he spend time and energy using his discoveries to decorate around his flowers and trees. Harold’s adventures brought him hours of enjoyment and visiting the beautiful desert and mountains became not just a hobby, but his very own “pot of gold.” Harold loved supporting the New Mexico Lobos basketball team and attending games in the “pit” with his family and close friends. His neighborhood of friends became part of his family and he often spoke of their kindness. Harold became a business owner in the late 60’s and he and Carmen moved to Socorro with two babies, Richard and Ronnie in tow. They ran the “Rascos” store for a few years and then purchased Brownbits Shoes and Western Wear.” His faithful customers and friends who supported Brownbits meant the world to Harold. He always said, “We’re here for the customers, they are our bread and butter.” Harold believed in working hard and doing whatever it took to help the local community. He loved the connection with other local business owners and took pride in his business. Harold was a devoted supporter of the Socorro Warriors, The Lion’s Club, Hammel Museum and the Socorro County Fair and Rodeo. He enjoyed “giving back” to his community and is very grateful for having the opportunity to raise his family here and call Socorro home. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, William Harold Quinn and Harriett Harvey; son, Ronald Quinn; siblings, Robert Paul Quinn, Eugene Frederick Quinn, Betty Pavia, Elizabeth Mary and William Quinn. He is survived by his wife, Carmen, son, Richard (Maria) Quinn; siblings, Kenneth Louis Quinn, Mary Margaret Quinn, Eileen Jane Quinn, Delia Sue Quinn, Thomas Arthur (Janice) Quinn, Christine Lee (Delbert) Frantz; grandkids, Jordan Quinn, Devin Quinn, Arnette Quinn, Catalina Quinn Lopez, Dominique Quinn, Matthew Quinn and 3 great-great grandchildren.
