Emilia M. Lopez

Emilia Maez Lopez, passed away at her home in Peralta, NM on Monday, May 7, 2018, at age 87. She was born in Valencia, New Mexico on March 6, 1931 to the late Elias Ramon Maez and Estella Apodaca Maez. She worked for the Los Lunas Public Schools and the Las Cruces Public Schools as a teacher’s assistant. Emilia graduated from Los Lunas High School. She had a deep love for her church and family. Her faith was strong and she prayed her rosary every day. Up until her final days, it was a ritual to stay in touch with her two remaining sisters, reminiscing and keeping alive family memories, and their love, respect and faith for their father and mother. Emily was heartbroken when her husband Eddy, died and always told us that she couldn’t wait to be with him again. She loved music and always enjoyed singing and dancing. She enjoyed listening to Spanish music, especially Spanish Catholic hymns. Emily was so happy when her children and grandchildren came to visit and they felt the same way. Family and caretakers alike were charmed by her quick witted humor, as there was never a dull moment with her. Everyone she impacted came away with a smile. Emily, known to the family as Lila, made you feel special when she blessed you at the end of your visit with her. The family would like to give a special thank you to Emily’s caregiver, Maria Cruz Ramirez. Emily is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Lopez, her parents, several siblings, and her grandson Vinnie Lopez. Emilia is survived by her daughter Theresa and husband Steve Graves, son Leonard Brooks, daughter Laura Griego and Phillip and son Vincent Lopez. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tricia Doxey and husband Chris; Jessica Sanchez and husband Steve; Andrea Dorman and husband Will; Cassie Lopez and Clarence; Gabriel Griego, Lexi Griego, LeAnna Brooks and Sara Griego; and her great-grandchildren; Timothy Sanchez, Robert Doxey, Matthew Doxey, Alyssa Garduno, Ethan Garduno, Orlando Sanchez, Cassidy Sanchez, Ava Dorman, Aliyah Dorman, Analeyah Pino and Clarence Pino Jr. and sisters, Martha Moya and Delicia Sanchez. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. All services will be held at the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church on Thursday, May 10th beginning with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m., funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Valencia Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Timothy Sanchez, Gabriel Griego, Alan Griego, Cassie Lopez, Andrea Dorman and Diego Sanchez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Orlando Sanchez, Cassidy Sanchez, Alyssa Garduno, Ethan Garduno, Ava Dorman, Aliyah Dorman, Analeyah Pino, Clarence Pino, Sara Griego, and Lexi Griego.
