Carmel Romero

Carmel Romero gained her wings on July 21st, 2026, surrounded by her family. Carmel was born on January 23rd, 1936 to Maria Silva-Sanchez & Federico Sanchez in Los Trujillos (Jareles) New Mexico, where she was raised with her brothers and sisters. Her services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday July 30th, 2026. Beginning with Visitation at 9:00am. Rosary 9:50 am. Eulogy 10:15am. Funeral mass 10:30am. Graveside service 11:30am. Following will be the reception at the La Merced Moose Lodge at 12:30pm. Carmel is preceded in death by her parents Maria and Federico Sanchez and her daughter baby Mary Romero. Carmel is survived by an extraordinary legacy she leaves behind with 6 children and 5 son in-laws, 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren. Carmel's services will be held on Thursday July 30th, 2026. Pallbearers: Mario Romero, Joseph Gabeldon, Joseph Gabeldon Jr., Azael Perea-Wright/Brian Gabeldon, Jonathan Castillo Jr., Alex Combest, Alexis Combest Jr. Zach Combest. Honorary Pallbearers: Leonard Castillo, Dale Perea, Gary Woo, Richard Gwilt, John Gonzales, Kenny Barela, Adam Gomez, Chris Castillo, John Castillo, Michael Hawks, Brian DeTommaso, Kobe Gabaldon, Matthew Chavez and John Adams. Carmel was a cherished wife, mother, and grandma. We will carry a part of her with us. Her recipes, her traditions, her honesty, her resilience, and most of all, her love will continue to live on through every one of us. In April 1954 Carmel married her love Adan Romero. Carmel and Adan shared 66 years of marriage and raised 6 children together. Lydia Castillo, Elizabeth Perea, Mary Ellen Chavez, Carmelina Gwilt, Mario Romero and Letitia Romero. Carmel's homemade tortillas and red chili could be smelled throughout the neighborhood. Feeding people was one of the ways she showed her love. She would always say, "Go eat." At Christmas, no matter how many grandchildren she had, every single one left her house with a little bag filled with an orange or apple, a candy cane, and nuts. She loved to host poker games & was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, She and her husband Adan were selected to be Padrino's of the 1969 Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church fiestas. She was a tenacious, incredibly strong woman who spoke the truth without hesitation. She was observant, wise, and always seemed to understand more than she let on. She reminded us that strength and joy can exist side by side.
