Angela L. Menchaca

Angela L. Menchaca, known as “Angie” to her family and many friends passed away on May 11, 2011 in Belen, NM. Angela was born in Karnes City, TX to Aristeo and Felicianna Loera. She married Hipolito G. Menchaca on December 8, 1941 in Piedras Negras, Mexico. The children born to this union were Maria “Tina” Diamantina, Maria Esperanza “Hope”, Maria Theresa “Trish”, Natalia Rose, Hipolito, Jr., Agustin “Tito”, and Armand Menchaca. Hipolito and Angela, and their seven children lived primarily in Wyoming as Hipolito worked for the CB & Q Railroad until his retirement. Upon his retirement they moved to Grants, NM and eventually settled in Belen, NM. Angela loved school but her mother died when Angela was only seven; the necessity in the now motherless home dictating that she leave school to care for her three siblings. She always desired an education and was very determined and did eventually learn to speak the English language (albeit a bit broken), but along with her animated hand gestures she was able to get her humorous little points across and actually conversed quite well. While her children were students at Shoshoni High School people in town would joke that they weren’t going to watch the ball game, but to watch “Angie” as she was a loyal, avid sideline cheerleader. She was known for her industrious work ethic, her loyalty to children and friends, and her penchant for cleanliness. She was preceded in death her husband, Hipolito G. Menchaca; sister, Rebekkah; brother, Armando Loera, son, Hipolito Menchaca, Jr.; grandsons, Travis Herrera and Terry Menchaca; daughters, Hope Herrera and Natalia Mulherin. Angela is survived by daughters, Tina Moore and husband, John, and Theresa Archuleta and husband, Charlie; sons, Agustin Menchaca and Armand Menchaca and wife, Stacey; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place following the service at Terrace Grove Cemetery.
