1955– 2022 Steve James Romero, age 66, a resident of Tome, NM passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2022, surrounded by family. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Tome and Our Lady of Belen Parish. Steve was a lifetime resident of Tome, NM. He graduated from LLHS and went to UNM. Steve farmed up to 700 acres in Valencia and Socorro County, starting in his teens. He ventured into dirt work and trucking, which evolved into Romero Excavating & Trucking. Steve did thousands of jobs around the state, including schools, shopping malls, Walmarts, Spaceport in T or C, and roadways. He married his wife, Glynell, in 1977 and they pursued a family of 3 children. Steve struggled with Parkinson’s for 21 years and he was an inspiration, displaying perseverance, faith, and determination. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nolberto and Felicitas; and siblings, Horacio, Rosaline, Arlen, and Russell Romero. Steve is survived by his wife, Glynell, of 44 years; three wonderful children, Sabrina Johnson, Horacio Romero (Kathryn), Alisha Moore (Kyle); siblings, Danny (Valerie), Nolbert (Janet), Sylvia Sanchez (Andy), Lillian, and Jeanette; and six grandchildren, Makayla, Gage, Horacio, Russell, Sally, and Cheyenne. A viewing will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final viewing will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew, Joshua, and Nathan Romero, Leland and Ethan Sanchez, and Chad Carter. The family would like to thank everyone for their support, prayers, and condolences.
