Mary Ascension Roebuck

Mary A. Roebuck born Maria Asencion Baca passed away quietly in her home on May 5, 2023, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she was 89 years old. Mary was born in Las Nutrias, NM on May 25, 1933. She grew up in a large and loving family of seven boys and five girls. Johnny, Fin, Eddie, Efrain, Lena Cordova, Esmael, Willie, Mary Roebuck, Reyes Jaramillo, Angie Lovato, Elsie Smith and Micheal. Mary was a cheerleader and student body president and graduated from La Joya High School with honors. She then received a degree from Sacred Heart University and began her career as an executive administrator who spent most of her career working for the federal government. She married and raised four children, Charles Birner Jr., Charlein Megherby, Nestor Birner, Angela Wilkinson while working and living in Belen and Albuquerque. Eventually, she remarried and moved to St. Croix in the USVI, where she visited the Caribbean Islands and developed a taste for travel. She moved to Florida, and then back to her home in Las Nutrias. She visited Antarctica, China, Europe, Iceland, India, Ireland & Yemen to name a few. Spending time with her daughters in Connecticut and Florida and visiting her sister in Puerta Vallarta several times a year. She loved deep sea fishing, flowers, gardening, decorating, playing cards with her sisters & girlfriends, and her family of course. In her last few years she enjoyed spending time with her caregiver, friend, and companion Vivian Alemeida. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Las Nutrias and the community she grew up in meant so much to her. The history and relationships of a lifetime were why she chose to make it her home. She will be missed. A visitation will take place at Romero Funeral Home on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Final Visitation will take place on Friday, May 12, 2023, at La Iglesia de San Isidro in Las Nutrias, NM, at 10:00 a.m., with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Las Nutrias Catholic Cemetery. There will be a reception after services at the Senior Center in Las Nutrias, NM. As a travel reminder the railroad crossing on Highway 304 is closed, please use an alternative route. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Rebecca Baca, her husband Vincent Roebuck, and her son Nestor L. Birner. She is survived by Charles Birner Jr., Charlein Megherby, and Angela Wilkinson. As well as her grandchildren Michael, Brittany, Rebecca, Christian, and Matthew. Pallbearers will be Charles Birner Jr., Frank Baca, Richard and Christian Megherby, Craig, and Matthew Wilkinson.
