Ruth M. Vincent

1927-2020 Ruth Vincent, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died in Bosque Farms, NM on March 19, 2020 at the age of 93. She is survived by her three children and their families: Kenneth and Mary Vincent of Los Lunas, NM; Karen Vincent Kruse and Jack of Westerville, OH; and Barbara Vincent Neumann and Stephen of Bosque Farms, NM. Her four grandchildren are Jonathan Vincent (and Soraya), Megan Kruse, Rachel (Kruse Katzman (and Steven,) and Kyle Neumann. Her great-grandson is Kaden Vincent. Ruth was born in Marysville, OH and attended a business school in Columbus, Ohio after high school graduation. She met her future husband, Tom, at an ice cream social and after their marriage in July 1948 she left school to work as a church secretary to support Tom during the completion of his teaching degree. As their children arrived she devoted herself to the full-time love of raising the children, while Tom worked as an educator and coach. Ruth became a skilled seamstress, knitter, cook, crocheter, gardener, food canner, and money manager. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio as Tom pursued his career, and they later acquired a farm and moved to Waynesville, Ohio. As the children matured, she went back to college, completing both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education, which permitted her to work full-time as an educator in Ohio public schools. Tom and Ruth sold their farm and moved to Gallup, NM in 1980 to build new careers. Ruth was hired to create the Business Technology Department at the Gallup branch of the University of New Mexico and was head of that program until 1987. At that time they moved to west Texas to join Kenneth and Jonathan as live-in grandparents. Their subsequent move to central NM in 1989 allowed Tom and Ruth to build a new life in Peralta, NM where they were able to enjoy country living, gardening, and family until Tom’s death in 2012, when Ruth moved to Belen, NM and later to Bosque Farms to reside at Beehive Assisted Living. Throughout her life, Ruth was a devoted member of various Lutheran and then Episcopal churches. She taught Sunday school, played the piano, sang, and served on several boards in leadership positions. At the time of her death she was a member of St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Los Lunas, NM. She and Tom were also exceptionally devoted to their communities and served as volunteers in many capacities. For example they helped youth at the Juvenile Detention Center to earn their GED, worked with the Keep New Mexico Beautiful organization, and assisted the elderly and low-income families to file their income taxes through an AARP program. Ruth loved travel, camping, fishing, and reading. She maintained contact with friends and family via her laptop computer right up to her death. All who were touched by her warmth, caring, and sense of humor will miss her, but we take comfort in the sure knowledge that she is reunited with Tom and is in the presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Los Lunas, NM at a later date. Details will be publicized as they become available.
