Roy P Storey

Roy P. Storey a lifelong resident of Belen, NM passed away peacefully in the home he built, surrounded by his loving family and the love of his life his wife of 51 years, Sara Birner Storey. Roy was a 1958 graduate of Belen High School. He retired from a career with PNM at the age of 47. He was an active member of the New Mexico Jaycees serving as a Senator, State President and National Director. He refereed football and basketball games for over 30 years with the NMAA. He was involved with Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church where he served as Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and mentored altar servers. He was selected as Padrino Del Santo Nino both in Bosque and in Belen. He was cherished by family and friends. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his family at Elephant Butte Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Guadalupe Storey; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Inez Birner; brothers, David and Felipe Storey; sister, Rita and husband, Louis Zamora; sister-in-law, Helen Storey; and brothers-in-law, Emilio Zamora, Frank Sanchez and John Birner. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Sara; sons, Frank and Roderick Storey; daughter, Royceann and husband, Scott LaFayette; four grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Ryan and Autumn Storey and Joshua and Holly LaFayette; brother, Dennis Storey; and sisters, Isabel Sanchez and Guadalupe Zamora; brother-in-law, Charles Birner and wife, Sharon; and sister-in-law, Celia Birner. Roy had 41 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. He was the glue that held his family together. His love and commitment to his family, friends and faith are an inspiration to us all. A Viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Final Viewing will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Tuesday, November 5, at 9:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
