Ronald R. Marquez Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

1959 -2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald R. Marquez, age 62, announce his passing on July 22, 2021, due to complications of COVID-19. Ronald was born on June 17, 1959 in Albuquerque, NM to Lalo and Rose Marquez. He grew up in Bibo, NM. Ronald graduated from Laguna Acoma High School and received a master’s degree in education from the University of New Mexico and was the ultimate Lobo Alumni. He served as a leader in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, principal, human resource director and retired in 2015 as the Superintendent of the Belen Consolidated Schools. Throughout his time in education, Ronald was devoted to the development of students, student – athletes, and every individual he worked with. He influenced the lives of many with his guidance and support, which has been carried on throughout their lives. During his retirement, Ronald enjoyed spending time with the four most important women in his life, Karen, Juanita Diane, Christina Rose and Melanie Roni. He enjoyed tending to his garden, working on his 1979 Corvette, Lobo Tailgates, attending every softball game for his daughter (Roni) who followed in his coaching footsteps and spending time with his entire family, who were his pride and joy. Ronald met Karen, the love of his life, in 1973 and they were together for 48 years. In those years, they were blessed with three daughters, Juanita Diane, Christina Rose and Melanie Roni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lalo and Rose Marquez; in-laws, Eloy and Ramona Baca; brother-in-law, Larry Jaramillo; sister, Patricia Chavez and husband, Jimmy. Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Karen; 3 daughters, Juanita Diane, Christina Rose and Melanie Roni; sister, Carol Jaramillo; brother, Kilino Marquez (Nikki); sister-in-law, Deborah Baca; brother-in-law, Jerry Baca (Phyllis); sister-in-law, Lisa Baca Hoffman (Chris); sister-in-law, Dolores Garcia and his loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and numerous other relatives and family friends. A Viewing will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, with a Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. A Final Viewing will take place on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m. An interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In honor of Ronald and out of respect for his family, they are asking that everyone wear a mask to all services or celebrations planned. Pallbearers will be his life long friend Rick Horacek, his nephews; Manuel Chavez, Charles Marquez, James Chavez, Michael Baca and Kevin Garcia.
