Joseph A. Cordova

1964-2017 Joseph “Joey” Cordova, age 53, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born in 1964, in Albuquerque, NM. Joey owned and operated Belen Consumer Finance, a family business started by his father, Ismael “Smiley” Cordova in 1988. He was a loving husband, devoted father, loyal brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Joey had a smile that could melt steel. He enjoyed a myriad of what life had to offer. Joey loved playing golf and being a member of the Tierra Del Sol Golf Club. He was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Joey appreciated sports, generously supported the local sports teams and strongly supported the community. He was an avid Bronco fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family and friends. Joey was well respected by his employees and customers. His absolute joy was his daughter, Marysa. They were two peas in a pod. Joey brought much love, loyalty, and generosity to many, and he will be missed by all of us. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Ismael “Smiley” Cordova; father-in-law, Bernie Cordova; and brother-in-law, Ernest Cordova. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Bernadine Cordova; his daughter, Marysa Baca and husband, Nick; mother, Kandy Cordova; sisters, Pam Cordova and husband, Mike Melendez, Sharon Cordova; brother, Christopher Cordova; mother-in-law, Irene Cordova; brother-in-law, Carlos Cordova and wife Victoria, sisters-in-law, Loretta Cordova, Eileen Cordova and companion James; and many beloved nieces, nephews and good friends. All services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen, NM. A Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Arty Baca, Fermin Chavez, Benny Lee Jaramillo, Dennis Luna, Paul Miller, Marty Peralta, Leo Sanchez and Frank Sedillo. Honorary Pallbearer will be Joseph“Jo Jo” Garcia.
