Jose Luis Vasquez

1965-2017 Jose “Joe” Luis Vasquez, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was called to be with our Lord on March 15, 2017. Joe passed following complications from liver disease and cancer. He was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Jose Paz Sr. “Beto” and Wences Balderrama Vasquez (deceased) on April 23 1965. He attended grade school in Loving, New Mexico and high school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Joe was a bit of a vagabond in his younger years, eventually settling down in Los Lunas in 1999. He worked for G-90 Manufacturing in Belen for several years. Joe loved cooking for and feeding people. His favorite dishes to make were carnitas with green chile made in his disco, BBQ-ing ribs and chicken, and he made awesome hot green chile salsa. Most of all, he loved his “Karoo”, his daughter Karena. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a gun enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading true crime stories. He had some favorite shows he liked watching over and over again. Among his other favorites were Grumpy Old Men, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and My Cousin Vinny. Joe has many friends as he pretty much didn’t meet a stranger he couldn’t quickly make friends with. He always had a wisecrack remark and could be sarcastic as heck but he was always a giving and caring person. If Joe was going to have dessert with a meal his philosophy was to eat it first because he knew he would definitely have room for it. Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Wences B. Vasquez. Joe is survived by his daughter, Karena Vasquez, step-daughters, Divina Calderon, Dorinda Baca and husband Tim Baca; father, Jose Paz Sr. “Beto” Vasquez and partner Mary Lou Martinez of Carlsbad, NM; siblings, Mario Vasquez and wife Priscilla of Carlsbad, NM, Flo Martinez of Las Vegas, NV, Jose Paz Jr. “Guero” Vasquez and wife Veronica of Las Cruces, NM; step-grandchildren, AJ and Ana Baca; mother of Karena and caregiver, Maria Vasquez; many nieces and nephews and the entire G-90 Manufacturing and ISHC family. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen on Monday, March 20, 2017. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10:30 a.m., and Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow directly after at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Andy Leyva, Alvian Chavez, Anthony Flores, Tommy Flores, Jose Palacio, Tim Baca, Osisto “Oso” Dosela and Rey Padilla. Honorary pallbearers are his nephews and nieces. There will be a reception at Our Lady of Belen Center after the interment. Please come join family and friends. Please bring a covered dish or drinks to share if you would like.
