Evelyn J. Hampton

1927-2014 Our beloved Evelyn “Ev” Collier Hampton went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. Her strength, tenacity, kindness, generosity and sense of humor touched countless lives over the past 87 years that this world was blessed with her presence. Evelyn was born and raised in Atoka, Okla., and attended East Central State College in Ada, Okla. She married Louis E. Hampton (Deacon) on Nov. 10, 1955. During her lifetime, she was a tireless volunteer dedicated to bringing the word of God to the inmates within the New Mexico prison system. Evelyn received numerous awards and recognition for over three decades of volunteer work from various local and state entities, including the State of New Mexico Corrections Department, Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship Ministries, Secretary of State — New Mexico, and Grant’s Church of Prison Ministry. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Opal Sanderson of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Diana and husband, Bobby Chidester, of Pryor, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; nieces, Andrea Allen of Houston, Texas, Marcia Pack of Austin, Texas, Melissa Ruckman of Midland, Texas, Jana Lindsey of San Angelo, Texas; nephews, James Claud Collier IV of Midland, Texas; George Wendell Maxey Jr. of Midland, Texas, numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews and countless close friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Hampton; children, Bill, Judy and Mary; parents, James Claud Collier Sr. and Carrie Simmons Collier; brothers, Buster Floyd Collier, James Claud Collier Jr., James Claud Collier III; and her sister, Eleanor Collier Maxey. The funeral will be held at the Church of Christ, 10 Golf Road, Belen, at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, with a viewing at 8 a.m. Pallbearers will be David Carter, Tyler Collier, Bob Hunnicutt, Wendell Maxey Jr., Brian Pack Jr. and Malachi Romero.
