Bernardina Baca

1940-2017 Bernardina “Bernie” Baca, a resident of Jarales, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017, while surrounded by family at the age of 76. She was a Jarales native who loved her family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and was a member of the Sheriff’s Posse. She really enjoyed having an active role with the Sherriff’s Posse. She was a very kind and generous person who enjoyed helping others. She was a caregiver to many friends and neighbors during times of crises. This was an act that she gave from the heart and felt it was her duty to help those in need. She is preceded in death by her son, Simon Baca Jr; her daughter, Shirley Ann Baca; her parents, Luciano and Rosenda Baca; her brother, Pedro Baca; her sisters, Margaret Candelaria and Beatrice Bibiano. She is survived by her sons, Ricky Baca and wife LaRee (Belen), Jacobo Baca (Alcalde); her daughters, Senovia Baca (Mesa, AZ), Dolores Baca (Los Chavez), Mary Jean Piersol and husband Russell (Bosque Farms); her son-in-law, Phillip Baca (Jarales); her brother, Wilfred “Wilma” Baca and wife Donna; sisters, Odelia Tully (Belen), Viola Gabaldon (Los Lunas), Eva Hogue and husband Elliott (Belen); grandchildren, Amanda Baca, Cathy Chavez and husband Joey, Elizabeth Gurule and boyfriend Adam Valenzuela, Brittany Gurule, Ernesto Gurule, Simon Juan Baca, Christina Perez, Shylyn Baca, Taysen Baca; great-grandchildren, Adam Valenzuela Jr., Joshua Valenzuela, Jacob Valenzuela, Cameron Chavez and little Shirley Ann Baca. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She had a special place in her heart for her nephews Edward Candelaria, Vincent Zamora and Pete Zamora, as she considered them children of her own. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m, with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
