Barbara Jaramillo

Barbara Jaramillo, age 98, a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and the retired senior volunteer program. Barbara was born in Los Chavez, NM on September 24, 1914 to Perfecto and Excelsa Salas Garcia. Barbara attended Dennis Chavez School where she played on the girls’ basketball team and graduated from 8th grade in 1930. She worked for a few years for the National Youth Administration (NYA). Bobbie was a walking family almanac, remembering relatives birthdays, wedding dates and unfortunately even the year they died since she outlived many of them. She loved crossword puzzles, knitting blankets for her family and playing bingo at the senior citizen center where she took pride in her daily winnings of nickels and dimes. Nana will always be remembered by her family for her delicious Sunday breakfasts along with the best homemade tortillas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Ruperto Jaramillo; parents, Perfecto and Excelsa Salas Garcia; brothers, Jose I., Hignio Garcia, Ermilo and Paul Chavez; and sisters, Rose Gutierrez, Tommie Molina and Eloisa Chavez. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Cordova and husband, Toby; four grandchildren, Barbara Torres, Richard Cordova and wife, Lorraine, Daryl Cordova and wife, Rena, Carolyn Mendoza andhusband, Victor; great-grandchildren, Eileen and Erica Torres, Chris, Carissa and Caitlyn Cordova, Michael, Kevin and Mia Mendoza and Peyton Cordova; sister, Sarah Campbell; sisters-in-law, Alice Garcia and Erlinda Marquez; and brothers-in-law, Frank Jaramillo and wife, Toni and Erineo Jaramillo. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, on Wednesday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Thursday, February 7, at 11:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard, Daryl and Chris Cordova, Victor Mendoza, Roddy Silva and Lawrence Jaramillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael and Kevin Mendoza. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at Good Life Assisted Living for the excellent care and love given to our Nanita.
