Melba J. Mora

1940-2017 Melba Jean Mora, 77, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was called home on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Melba was born and grew up in Cimarron, NM on January 11, 1940 to Juan and Florintina Romero. She came from a large family. She loved canning, and was an amazing cook and baker. Melba loved to make people laugh, enjoyed telling stories about her life, and was so proud of her Native American heritage. She was an artist and won an award for her paintings. Melba and Clarence, her husband of 61 years, were very adventurous and traveled to many places both at home and abroad. Melba’s faith was everything to her. She was a lifetime Christian and member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. She was very involved in her church. She taught Catechism to adults, led marriage retreats, performed missionary work, and guided her grandchildren in their faith as well. Melba’s favorite Bible passage was Psalm 23, “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Melba is preceded in death by her son, Marcos Juan Mora; grandson, Nicholas Jon Mora; parents, Juan and Florintina Romero; brothers, John Romero, Litra Romero and Clarence Romero; sisters, Annabelle Romero and Gloria Hargrave. Melba is survived by her loving husband, Clarence Alfred Mora, of Los Lunas, NM; sons, Clarence Andrew Mora and wife Cheryl and Antonio Emanuel Mora and wife Mia; daughters, Paula Venegas and Naomi Krause; 13 grandchildren, Manuel, Andrea and Celina Mora, Catalina and Marisol Mora, Joshua, Bailey, and Samuel Krause, Gabrielle, Christopher and Eric Venegas, Jeannie and Nicholas Mora; great grandchildren, JodeeLee Rigdon and Joshua Mora; sisters, Eva Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Mary Romero, Mary Hernandez and husband Louis, Esther Doñez and husband Francisco, Dora Garcia; and many nephews, nieces and loving friends. Services were held on Monday, August 21, 2017, at San Clemente Catholic Church. A visitation was held at 8:30 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Antonio Enrique, Francis Doñez, Chris Venegas, Eric Venegas, Joshua Krause, and Manual Mora.
